1 Name: VIPPER 2017-10-15 17:46
Everything Ian changing these days, including language. Do you want to stay hip and with it? Do you have fear of missing out (FOMO)? Then you need to know millennial slang.

Let’s help each other stay in the loop by listing slang we know. I’ll start with a few.

Fam: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fam
Bae: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bae

Virtue signaling: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=virtue+signalling

Gaslighting: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Gaslighting

Beetlejuicing: when someone shows up in a thread and their username is relevant.
Example:
user555: check out this video of a dog doing a backflip!
Dogdoingbackflip123: lol look at my username
Someone444: beetlejuiced

Gate keeping: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Gatekeeping

Verified: check mark on social media, some people care way too much about it

Catfish (verb): ugly person on a dating/hookup site/app using a pretty person’s photo for their profile
[people agree to meet for a hookup]
Ugly woman at door: “hey there, come on in”
Guy who came from Tinder: “Ah shit, I got
catfished”
Ugly woman at door: “but you’re already here, might as well...”
Guy who came from Tinder: “sigh, okay”

Good bot/bad bot: sometimes chat bots accept feedback, so people will reply to their comments saying “good bot” or “bad bot” but it hasn’t also turned into a joke where you say it a a reply to someone who isn’t a bot at all.

“My mentions”: when someone says something controversial that backfires in social media, their follow-up response is about their mentions, usually to insult the people who are tweeting at them (rather than admitting they made a mistake)

Somebody555: [stupid opinion] #lol
Someguy842: @Somebody555 wow you’re fucking stupid
Birdsarecool222: @somebody555 are you serious
Somebody556: wow my mentions lol

Also half of these are slang-in-vogue (every generation has these, you don't need to understand them to continue using the internet), half of them are established terms (how is "gaslighting" "millenial"?), and the third half are specific to twitter.

TL;DR GTFO

No offense but if you don't get why the term "gaslighting" is important for millennials then you must not spend much time on social media. I'm actually kind of jealous, I wish I didn't have to deal with people who use terms like this on a routine basis.

None taken. It's quite a non-millenial phrase, and needs no explanation as being such. Don't just include words here if they are not of recent vintage.

Dead-ass: serious, very, definitely

Alternatively, there are lots of bots on dating and hookup apps too, and they will try to scam you. Fun fact: some of these bots don’t properly sanitize input.

Oversharing: posting too much personal info on social media

Comrade: a term of endearment naive millennials use for each other, it’s for those who don’t know about the death tolls of communism think it’s cool to be pro-communism when they’re at Starbucks using the WiFi on their iPhones to use American social media platforms to tell people about how capitalism is bad
