Since most doujin are untranslated, I've found reading the hiragana directly has been a great help in learning new words. What are some helpful ones you would recommend?

You'll need to know more than hiragana to actually read and understand them. o-o

The ones I read tend to repeat the same words and phrases, so it's not like they utilize a complicated vocabulary. I am most familiar with あ, あ! あ! あ! あ! あ..... あ!!!! あ!!!!

The most fun comes when there is an abundance of onomatopoeia that must be deciphered, and once read, takes on a personality of its own, conveying emotions that are inexpressable by simple gloops or sploops in English.
