I like bananas and coconuts.
I also dislike apples. Seriously, they take too long to eat for the energy they provide. Just compare the time spent / nutriments ratio with bananas.
Now you'll tell me, I like coconuts yet they are a fucking bitch to open. You're right. But they taste good. My issue with apples is that the taste is pretty unremarkable: it's just not worth investing the effort.
I learned the other day that to open a banana from the top (where the stem is) is the so called wrong'' way to peel it. It seems we de-evolved'' from monkeys in this respect, or so was the opinion of the holder of this information, and do it the wrong way. Monkeys open bananas from the bottom end, by just peeling off the black spot on the bottom--which to me, surprisingly, is very much easier. You do not ever get that ``mis-open'' where you end up smashing the top of your banana.
Apples and bananas both smell awful when they rot. Oranges, now they actually smell great when they overripen. They add a zesty fragrance to any kitchen. It's real work to peel an orange, but it just makes your ``reward'' that much better when you finally get to eat it.
I tried the upside down banana peeling technique and it was amazing. I've always wondered why bananas looked so much better when monkeys were eating them.

I think it may be a primate instinct to open a banana from the bottom because I remember opening it like that in Kindergarten, but I guess I just conformed to open it the other way.
As mesmerizing as that video was, >>8, It seemed like to me that there was a lot of delicious orange flesh wasted when he sliced off the skin. I don't think I would do very well trying that, as I am nowhere near as good with a knife as the cooking man in the video.

That's because he wanted to make sure that there's absolutely none of the inner skin left. I use the same technique and there's very little waste. It's pretty easy to learn too, but the quality of your knife really matters, don't expect to do it this effortlessly with a knife that cost less than $10.
