I am a big fan of the MEGAMI TENSEI (also known as MEGATEN) series. I would like VIPPERs to recommend me a similar game that I will enjoy.
Pokemon? Seriously.
also you should have posted this in the video game thread right here : http://www.secretareaofvipquality.net/saovq/index.html#10
Etrian Odyssey
There's nothing quite like them really.
Are you looking for JRPGs with DEEP stories, with DEEP gameplay, or do you just enjoy the ridiculous amount of grind?
For the two latter criteria, Tri-ace's and Nippon Ichi's stuff come to mind. And what >>3 said for the grind without the DEEP.
Hopefully Atlus brings over SMT DEVIL SUMMONER RAIDOU KUZUNOHA VERSUS KING ABADDON.
The first game was awesome because it kicked reason to the curb and shit got fucking crazy towards the end of the game. It was quite the spectacle.

Megami Tensei: Imagine Online
Or Pokemon/digimon/monster rancher/jade cacoon type stuff if you want single player monster raising
> Tri-ace's
Played SO2, SO3 and VP, enjoyed it, but it was far from Megaten for me. But at least the trophies were challenging to get.
> Nippon Ichi's
Played Disgaea, but it wasn't as HARDCORE as Megaten.
I want a monster-raising, challenging game, with dungeons that you can feel.
Branch into roguelikes
Monster raising and dungeons?
Jade Cacoon and Digimon would be best then. And you can go into roguelikes with monster pets
I wanted to get Jade Cocoon, but Wikipedia said that it's 10 hours long. Is this true?
Dragonseed or Monster Rancher would be good choices for monster raising

If you could go through without grinding probably. But the game has grinding so no.
Not monster-building but for weapon-building and dungeons that assrape you, Vagrant Story.
I hear they're making a Megaten MMO, planned for translation. I gave up on MMOs after trying PSO way back then, but if this one is decent and the people playing there not shit, it might get me back into playing a MOO. Heard good/bad things about it guys?

I tried once but it's hard since it's all in Japanese. If it's translated I'll go for it.
I'm downloading SOUL HACKERS in Japanese. I started learning it some time ago and gave up, because I had no motivation. Wish me luck, VIPPERs.

I hear if you're learning Japanese, then Dragon Quest V and Final Fantasy V are both very good games to play through.
I learned English from localized JRPGs. I know you can do it, VIPPER!
( ß ƒŽß) Shining Force!
Please recommend me a good quality Japanese dictionary, preferably on-line (thought I wouldn't mind buying a paper one). My Japanese knowledge is limited to transcribing hiragana to romaji. D;
I mean, of course, a Japanese to English dictionary.

I hate how all the new ones use the SF name, but they're not even SRPGs ('A` )
I just went through the intro, took me half an hour, but I understood some isolated sentences. I feel awesome.
