[Rad] Classic games appreciation club [16-bits][3-d][Stereo] (54)

It's impossible to play all the great classic games, let alone all the great obscure games that deserve to be classics, but it's fun to try! The idea of this thread is that every once in a while, someone recommends a game he loves, then we all play together until we get bored, and talk about it while we do.
This thread was inspired by a discussion in the general bump thread: http://www.secretareaofvipquality.net/saovq/kareha.pl/1232843359/845,849,858-866

Since we're pretty good at self-policing it would be limiting to make rules, so here's just how I think this thread could work:

  • Let's only discuss a small amount of games at once! This is very important: this thread is all about playing old games together at the same time, then talking about them as if they had just been re-released. It's not about dumping your list of favorite games. It'd be hard to follow if we're actively talking about more than 2 or 3 games at once. And definitely not more than one long game (like a JRPG) at once! The best time to introduce a new game is probably once the thread has fallen from the main page for a few days.
  • Let's focus on late 80's and 90's games - in other words, games that most of us have no qualms about downloading and no trouble emulating.
  • When recommending a game, do your best to sell us on it: tell us why you love it, tell us how to set up the emulator if necessary (PSX, Mame, and Dosbox can give some configuration trouble). Don't recommend a game you've never played but always meant to try, prefer something you can vouch for!
  • Don't recommend games we've all played! Even if some of us may have missed FF7, there's little to discuss about it today. Great candidates are games that recently got a romhack translation, recently became supported in an emulator, were recently mentioned in this thread, or were recently profiled in a popular retrogaming site like http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/, etc.
  • Don't forget about the other gaming threads, like http://www.secretareaofvipquality.net/saovq/kareha.pl/1224427130, for posts that don't fit the idea of this thread.

Also, let's reboot the thread with stricter rules if there's interest but the free-form recommendations don't work out.

I'll let someone else choose where to start, or will post something later if nobody cares to. Maybe one of the games we've mentioned in the general thread the last few days?

I would like to propose two motions;

  • I don't think that limiting the scope to one game at the time is necessary. SAoVQ, with its post speed and VIP-QUALITY posters who know how to write comprehensible posts, is capable of two, or even three interwoven gaming discussions simultaneously.
  • I forgot.

I'm sorry, it's not that I don't like this thread idea, but that it's just a lot of work!

>>1-san maybe you should start us off with an example to get things going.

I just want to bump this cause I like the idea.
