There is nothing worth watching nowadays. Nothing but moeblobs and HURR DURR I'M SO ARTSY niche stuff.
At least, that was the case last time I checked. If it's changed, I would like to know.
I watched Soranowoto because VIPPER suggested it and OH MY GOD WHERE ARE THEIR CHINS?!
>>2
I'm not sure what HURR DURR I'm so artsy stuff you're referring to, but Kaiba, for example, is an amazing example of interesting art combined with an excellent story. If you're talking about Zetsubou Sensei, however, and his annoying style that he refuses to ever stray from then yes I hate the artsy niche stuff.
>>3
Sure, why not.

Do yourself a favor, and stop. You'll come out a better person that way.

I was planning to do this, actually. Lain, Eva, maybe NHK, and a few series that I never finished up (second season of Spice and Wolf, GitS SAC, Texhnolyze, War in the Pocket).
Maybe I'll just watch Lain instead.
>>8
Texhnolyze wasn't very good. Fake depth, surrealism that isn't done very well, etc. etc. GitS SAC is pretty good, but not all of it and the movies are much better. Just watch the movies over and over instead.
Just watch Lain
Watch some Yakitate! Japan
Holy shit the new K-on opening is fucking intense. Also look how cute Mio is in those glasses.

Despite being anti-moe, I colon-three'd at the sight of Mio in glasses.

I am a retro-otaku because I am so fascinated by 1980s anime.
>>21
You should tell us about things we all missed despite having been subbed.
>>21
Same here, I enjoy the camp factor. I can't really get into anything serious or modern.
Durarara!! is OK, I guess. In an extent. Maybe it's because everyone trolls the shit out of each other and the Internet has a starring role, so yeah.
>>15
You should try listening to denpa.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFug95nEVSM
Beware though, your head will probably explode.
I'm watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes right now. I find it very enjoyable, as long as I pretend that the story takes place in Europe during the middle of the second millennium, and that the space ships are actually boats. If you're constantly screaming NUH UH SPACE DON'T WORK THAT WAY at the television, you're missing the point.
I am enjoying the currently airing Mayoi Neko Overrun.
Story: Neko-Rei enters the Generic's life, he teaches her coping strategies to deal with main girl (his childhood friend and also his sister in orphanhood) whom the authors engineered to be the ultimate character sheet to bring with you at the tsundere attributes bingo. There is a third main girl.
Okay, actually it's horrible!
I love Peko's designs and will endure it despite my best judgement.
Hime Chen! isn't too bad for a loli idol show, that and I've liked Fukuda Kanon since even before she was a Shugo Chara Egg.
Anyone following Heroman?
It becomes pretty nice a few episodes in. I like to see the whole alien invasion and Californian wasteland themes tackled with the innocence and straightforwardness of children's cartoons. Interesting touch how the titular character never emotes or changes facial expressions.
(And absolutely amazing how, in such a production, they still can't make the effort of having all the English text vetted by someone who actually knows the language - see the ridiculous text in the ED)
>>33 would rather eat the rotten asshole of a roadkill skunk, and down it with beer.

Bumping for those of us who still like to watch stuff as it airs. Are you following anything in this new all-time low of a worst season ever?
Since I enjoyed Kuroshitsuji 1, I gave a try to the second season. For all its flaws and filler, the 1st season had a great ending, by refusing to ass-pull a way to restore the status quo.
So, in the first episode of s2, they start by hinting they are replacing the great main characters by unsympathetic clones, they replace the fabulous fujoshi catering with unsubtle hard gayness, and finally, they rewrite the implied ending of S1 into the most heinous form of lazy anime ending, a variant of the reset button. Then straight to the filler right from ep2. Terrible disappointment.
I really don't care for the whole zombie invasion genre, but it seems Highschool of the Dead is the closest thing to actual entertainment Japan will provide this summer. Yay for family-friendly violence and unerotic bloody underwear scenes.
I watched the first episode of Occult Academy for some reason I forget and enjoyed its ridiculousness enough to continue. I also like the main character's shoes and 1960s dress.
I thought of watching Shiki but then I heard they'd made the school girl the main character and saw the character designs, so I gave up on that idea. I should just finish reading the books.
On a side note I watched two shows last season, and already I genuinely can't recall what one of them was and what I remember best from the other (Tatami Galaxy) is the ED.
>>38
If you didn't finish Tatami Galaxy you have missed one of the best recent anime. You MUST watch it. It gets better as it progresses too.
>>39
I did finish it, and I totally agree. The last couple of episodes were excellent. I just didn't find it very memorable - I can't see it sticking in my memory this time next year, and in the short term there was too much repetition which I remember more than the things that actually changed.
Seitokai Yakuindomo isn't bad, you know, when you realize and acknowledge that there's no great anime airing right now so you might as well keep yourself entertained with crude sex jokes.
>>42
It's better than other comedy shows.
The best comedy for me this season is Mitsudomoe. I'm also enjoying Occult Gakuin and Shiki very much. A lot of people disliked Ookami-san but I actually liked it. It isn't anything eye-popping but it's entertaining. Amagami SS too (Kaoru is sex). I'm disliking HotD because of the blatant fanservice and the slutty main girl.
Although Tatami Galaxy was not as good as Mind Game or Kaiba, it was still excellent. There should be more Kafkaesque anime out there.
I'm pleasantly surprised with Asobi ni iku yo, despite its premise being all magical girlfriend harem stupidity. The guy is not a wimp and there's an actual story where things are gunned down by girls who incidentally were not wearing clothes at the time they had to make things explode. Also well-animated for a girls cartoon.
SYD has some cute characters, and I laugh a few times at it, otherwise I don't really find it that funny. At the end of the day it's a shounen manga used as a tool to stimulate Japan's birthrates.
I'm also watching Mitsudomoe, I'm not finding it laugh out loud funny, there's a lot of that misunderstanding humour going on and it's not good at tickling my funny bone.
I'm watching HoTD with a friend who likes zombie stuff, too bad he's actually gay and doesn't really like the fanservice, I'm pretty much only watching it cause of the Inazuma designs.
I'm also following K-ON!! and watching the rest of Saraiya Goyou; can it be described as a cute samurai doing cute things?
This season looks like it's going to suck. Just like the last one.
Prove me wrong.
The Cat Shit One Annie May is good. I would say in an average season it would be considered upper midrange quality, but considering the dearth of quality this season I would say it is excellent by comparison.
>>50
At first I thought you were writing a fake review, then I looked it up and found that there's actually a series called Cat Shit One
Despite knowing nothing more about it, this trailer makes me excited about Star Driver: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtDpxbIr0-I

I walked past my brother's room the other day and he was sitting in the dark playing a game on the computer and talking to people through his headset. It was kind of creepy because it reminded me of Lain.
I was watching Welcome to the NHK! but I accidentally watched it like this:
1 2 3 4 5 16 17 18 19
It was there that I realized I had missed most of the episodes and began watching it again.
How VIP is Otaku No Video?

It provides a shining example of what all VIPPERs should strive to be.
I downloaded but didn't watch that squidgirl shit...
I watched but didn't download ep.2 of that otaku shit.. i.e., the "oh my! little sister wants to fuck me, but I'm oblivious in regards to otakuism eleoheloheloheleoheloheleohe..."
is the squid girl shit worth "waiting" on??!!!???
Just fuck the little sister.
There's an average of 1.25 shows about incest every season. It should be clear by now that they have no incentive to make those shows rise much above their pornographic delivery.
You should only bother with the girl cartoons that are very strongly relevant to a specific prurient interest of yours.
ink-vomit-girl is kinda ‚©‚í‚¥‚¥‚¥‚¥, I was hoping it would be better.

I think there's a contest in the anime industry to see who can make the dumbest show. At least, that's what I tell myself when I watch something like that...
Nobody seems to enjoy Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt except for me, which is a shame. They're really missing out!
>>72
Ah, I'm enjoying it. Watching it together with my girlfriend, actually. She likes it too.
>>71
I also enjoy Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt! Aside from Chuck not being funny, I feel it has been consistently excellent, something that cannot be said of many animations(Japanese or otherwise).
I haven't really kept up with the past several seasons. Frankly, I stopped really paying attention to anime around 2006 or 2007, whichever year had a shit-tonne of overrated vampire-related shows. The only exceptions were during my brief stay in COREA when I was watching Saki and Zetsubou Sensei.
With that said, I am watching Bakemonogatari for the first time. It's a lot stranger than I thought, but I also find the similarity in style to Zetsubou Sensei to be interesting.
Ever since I started watching anime I've never even thought about seasons, I just watch whatever I hear good things about. Old or not.
>>74
It never ceases to creep me how many experiences I share with VIPPER.
>>76
Which ones? COREA, Bakemonogatari, or not keeping up with recent seasons?
>>77
All of them (((( Gß„Dß)))
I can relate to almost everything VIPPER says.
>>74-78
I've watched all the classics I've cared to, so I think I set the bar lower for shows that are topical.
Unfortunately it seems they aren't any enthusiasts worth talking to, with anyone sufficiently knowledgeable being either an insufferable embarrassment of a wota, a self-loathing 4chan nerd, a wannabe scholar of postmodernism, or a closeted powerlevel concealer.
Guess it's only a matter of seasons until I join your ranks.
>insufferable embarrassment of a wota
I thought all wota were embarrassments
>closeted powerlevel concealer
Please explain.

The expression is from some old piece of kopipe about "concealing your power level" around less knowledgeable people.
I never bother to mention, let alone discuss, my nerdiest hobbies with people who don't seem to know the topic much. Which means that I also don't seem to know the topic much.
according to Robert Creeley, her poems have "a quiet and enabling signature." He adds, "I donft think therefs another poet writing who is so consummate in authority and yet so generous to her readers and company alike."
robert creeley also said (in the 1980s' at NAROPA):
"The language poets..... ehhhhhhhhhhh...
they're alright,
I guess."
IMAGISM WILL ALWAYS WIN BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY AESTHETIC WHICH CAN BE RELATED TO "OBJECTIVELY".
After Li Po
While my hair was still cut straight
across my forehead
I played at the front gate, pulling
flowers.
You came by on bamboo stilts, playing
horse,
You walked about my seat, playing with
blue plums.
And we went on living in the village of
Chokan:
Two small people, without dislike or
suspicion.
At fourteen I married My Lord you.
I never laughed, being bashful.
Lowering my head, I looked at the wall.
Called to, a thousand times, I never
looked back.
At fifteen I stopped scowling,
I desired my dust to be mingled with
yours
Forever and forever and forever.
Why should I climb the lookout?
At sixteen you departed,
You went into far Ku-to-en, by the river
of swirling eddies,
And you have been gone five months.
The monkeys make sorrowful noise
overhead.
You dragged your feet when you went
out,
By the gate now, the moss is grown,
the different mosses,
Too deep to clear them away!
The leaves fall early this autumn, in
wind.
The paired butterflies are already
yellow with August
Over the grass in the West garden;
They hurt me. I grow older.
If you are coming down through the
narrows of the river Kiang,
Please let me know beforehand,
And I will come out to meet you
As far as Cho-fu-sa.

I'm in love with the Morton salt girl.
I want to pour salt in her hair and watch
her dance. I want to walk her through the
salt rain and pretend that it is water. I want to
get lost in the Washington Cathedral and follow her
salt trail to freedom.
I want to discover her salt lick in the forests of Virginia.
I want to stand in line for hours to see her walk on in
the middle of a movie only to have the film break and watch salt
pour out and flood the aisles. I want to sit in an empty theater
up to my eyeballs in salt and dream of her.
When I go home she will be waiting for me in her white dress
and I will drink salt water and lose my bad dreams.
I will seek the blindness of salt, salt down my wounds,
hang like a side of ham over the curtain rod in the bathroom
and let her pour salt directly on my body.
When she is done I will lick her salty lips with my tongue
and walk her down the stairs into the rain, wishing that I
could grow gills and bathe in her vast salt seas.

> Japanese animation studio Studio 4‹C has in production a new ThunderCats animated series scheduled for release in 2011 by Cartoon Network. The show has been hinted at explaining Lion-O's climb to the throne with a more original anime feel and darker style.
Wanting a change from anime, I decided to rewatch the childhood classic, only to find this. I'm not sure how to feel about it yet. Let's hope it's good!
Also, on a related note: some – if not all – animation for the original cartoon was done by the Japanese. And The Centurions was animated by Sunrise. Fancy that.
