Sorry to hijack the thread with a real story, but I'd like some answers (here's hoping my post won't mysteriously disappear). Does anyone know about the secret monthly thread?
It appears on the 11th of every month, between 0:00 and 1:00 (server time). You can only see it on subback.html.

And no, not gonna tell you what the thread is. Don't wanna bring anybody into this unless they're serious and might be able to help me/us. I've already told you when you can see the thread, you have one hour to find it. Suffice to say that, from the title alone, you will immediately know that it is the one. Another thing, but that might change: it currently says it has six posts.

When you open the thread (at least with Firefox 3.5 and Opera 10) your browser crashes immediately. But when you relaunch it, you don't end up opening that thread You end up opening a weird online game page.

I have asked about the mysterious thread by email. The admin replied immediately (I mean, about two minutes later) and told me that it would be in everyone's best interest not to tell anybody. I also asked the guy who wrote Kareha, and received an answer more than a week later: "There's a few modders extending my software in ways I do not endorse. Please take bug reports about modifications with the administrator of your website, and about your browser crashes with Mozilla or other vendor. Thanks."

Anyway, I'm getting off-track here. Still haven't told you what the page that opens is all about.

Like I said it does not look like a thread at all. It looks like a flash boardgame. (Not flash, though. But right clicking does nothing, view source is empty, and the address bar shows a bunch of random characters that get wiped almost immediately after the browser reopens. Not sure how it works.)
The board game looks like every board game ever, monopoly, etc.. You play on a long straight line of squares. You can't scroll to see what's beyond the first 50 squares or so (but you can see there's a whole lot more from a "minimap" of sorts displayed above the playfield).
Most of the squares are empty, except for a few depicting random things (a large bottle, a lcd clock, a cartoon bear holding red flowers, etc). The minimap shows that a lot more squares are illustrated further to the right of the board. Only rolled empty squares for now.
I didn't see the rules of the game explained anywhere, but so far it only seems that you can just throw a dice and move forward by the number you got. Players can take as many moves as they like until 1:00, but in general we only play one turn every month. (At 1:00 the browser crashes again - everytime. I assume the thread disappears at the same time, didn't actually verify)
There were six pawns on the board when I started 8 months ago.
And here's the thing I'm freaking out about: the game flashed a lot of messages that said that now you must roll the dice at least once every month - no matter what.
I'm sure I should not take it seriously. But two months ago, the orange pawn, whose turn came up around 00:20, took no move. He was the next to last in playing order, so green was blocked and could not take any move either.
Last month green and orange didn't join the game.

>>8 Yeah. My brother used to spend a lot of time on these types of forums. He began browsing 2ch when it first came out, and learned Japanese from it. He was obsessed with Japanese culture at the time and liked the subculture, but this is going away from the main point.

Anyway, he was going to a tech school and working on a project. A game software. His plan was for it to run with the Kareha software. He was really good friends with Waha and if you did a bit of digging, you could probably find his name. He was really excited when World2Ch came out, and loved 4-ch and World4ch (back when it was good, of course.) He even rented out some VPN or something that would let him post on 2ch once it became culture-locked. He liked 4chan, but thought that the board was getting a bit scummy.

Back to the software. He was planning on making different types of software to play on the different textboards, and was integrating it pretty well into Waha's software. His main focus was on a simple board game (he would release more games later.). They're is really easy to make in terms of programming and he thought that a luck-game would work well with these boards.

One night, during his last semester in college, he was really freaking out. He stopped seeing people and would only leave for food. His girlfriend broke up with him because he was always grumpy and would never spend time with her. His thesis paper was on the culture. He would stay up for days on end using energy drinks, and later, Adderall. He was finishing his paper and had a stable release of his game program when he died after staying up for 5 nights on end.

I've talked with Waha about it, and he says that he looked over my brother's code a lot while he was working on it, but never implemented it into Kareha. And, Waha told me later on, there was never a computer-player implemented; that wouldn't be in the spirit of the boards, or something.

This is really freaking me out. I didn't know about this before, but it all seems to line up with my brother some how. He spent a lot of time on these boards while he was alive. What if he haunts them in the afterlife, unable to move on? What if he's playing the game? He died on May 11, 2007 sometime during the night.

My head hurts. I need to go take a nap. I'll answer any other questions you have about him tomorrow
