Let's make a Homegrown VIPtronic Album (341)

As I suggested in the DQN ELECTRONICS VOL 2010 album thread, let's make our own VIP Quality music release!

Any contribution is welcome, so long as it is VIP Quality, and created for this project. Multiple contributions are obviously welcome too.

Once we have enough tracks, or once everyone has lost interest, and no later than in exactly four months (a deadline will keep us motivated), we will distribute by torrent and direct download.

To contribute music or artwork you can post your work in this thread, or to keep it secret until the day of release, you can send it to dqn.dqn.lol@gmail.com .

We can use this thread to discuss what to do, what title we want to use, plan collaborations, etc.

In case we need a wiki, let's put our stuff here: http://tanasinn.info/wiki/Homegrown_VIPtronic_Album

To prove that I'll be somewhat reliable, I am the guy who packaged Title, who harassed the participants to send in their tracks, and who did the worst songs on it: rest assured that unless nobody participates, something will eventually get released.

VIPtronic on vinyl: A possibility?

I am quite on board with this, after an interesting discussion about how this is actually somehow possible.

The situation as far as I can tell: Average price for a minimum of 100 units of 12-inch vinyl is around $900 plus S/H. A better idea of what would be on the album would be required to get a more accurate quote, but that's all I have to go on thus far.

Basically, the process would go:

  1. Determine content on album -> 2. Put together album -> 3. Get quote(s) -> 4. Solicit donations

I'd like to add that this album cannot be more than 36 minutes (18 minutes on each side) so it'd have to be a more exclusive selection of music (meaning more VIP QUALITY per track because people will really put a lot of VIP QUALITY EFFORT into them?), and perhaps a collaboration with another related community to make it viable is a possibility as well.

This. Perhaps something like the VIPtronic vs. DQN ELECTRONICS album suggested in the channel?

If we can get DQN ELECTRONICS people on board, then yes. We should work on scouting interest.

Since the selection would be more exclusive, I think it would be good to go for some collaborative tracks. That way you have two people ensuring the track's QUALITY and more people can be involved. And of course somebody should also master the album so it sounds even more VIP!

Are we talking self-mastering or professional mastering? Because if it's the latter, then the price increases by about $150 a side.

We definitely should try to use our own skills whenever possible. Volume leveling will be enough. We just need to...uh...do it this time, since it's more important to do it on something like this than on the Internet releases.

An additional point to note is that all samples have to be cleared. As of 2005, there is pretty much no such thing as fair use for samples. Nobody will press a record unless they get all the proper licensing and other legal stuff sorted.

Basically what this means is that sampling has to be kept to a minimum unless you want to pay licensing costs. :\

Or, at least, that's what some pressers say. Others just claim no legal liability. Either way, legal details will have to be settled beforehand if such a project gets off the ground.
