As I suggested in the DQN ELECTRONICS VOL 2010 album thread, let's make our own VIP Quality music release!
Any contribution is welcome, so long as it is VIP Quality, and created for this project. Multiple contributions are obviously welcome too.
Once we have enough tracks, or once everyone has lost interest, and no later than in exactly four months (a deadline will keep us motivated), we will distribute by torrent and direct download.
To contribute music or artwork you can post your work in this thread, or to keep it secret until the day of release, you can send it to dqn.dqn.lol@gmail.com .
We can use this thread to discuss what to do, what title we want to use, plan collaborations, etc.
In case we need a wiki, let's put our stuff here: http://tanasinn.info/wiki/Homegrown_VIPtronic_Album
To prove that I'll be somewhat reliable, I am the guy who packaged Title, who harassed the participants to send in their tracks, and who did the worst songs on it: rest assured that unless nobody participates, something will eventually get released.
I have a MIDI that I can't seem to convert to mp3 without major issues. I hope some good soul can help me, else I'm going to upload it "as is" and it will be up to the Album Maker to convert it the right way m(_ _)m
Audacity?
Or how about http://www.hamienet.com/midi2mp3 ?

How should the metadata be formatted ?
Trackname: jewslockedgroove
Artist: BENOIST
If you don't reply, I'll assume the title is meant to be changed to "JEWS (locked groove)"
>>201
Same thing. Please confirm:
Trackname: The Ghost of Cubone's Mother
Artist: Captain Carlin
>>202
Upload it or e-mail it to me and I'll run it through my best sound sources.
>>204
I sent the midi to you.
We're gonna have a few songs tying into a cars/hitting the road/racing theme, and also some in a retro videogames theme.
(Partly by my fault in both cases, actually)
Should we acknowledge either? Both? None? And in any case, a better idea than "VIPTRONIC 2" or the titles that were recommended months ago without bringing many enthusiastic reactions?
Reminder: It is not too late to participate.
See >>141 for the rules and details.
Please try to send your submissions before May 27th. The project will be released on June 1st as a torrent, mediafire/rapidshare download, and long-term direct download mirror.

I kinda like most of these, no real favorite. Other opinions/ideas?
Has anyone done VIPPERTRONIK SUPERSONIK yet?
err, there was an Elektronik Supersonik ringtone on COOL FREE RINGTONES, but that's about it for things that have to do with VIP and that song in this project.
>>213
I third these, but would like to combine two of them, like this:
Tabitha "Tablecat" Catherine's Super Off-Table Formula VIP
Something I've been working on off-and-on for a while:

I have made a cover with >>219's title, since everybody seems to like it (hosting on a separate server to avoid "spoiling" VIPPERs who don't want to follow the project until it's done)

That'll work. I'll see what I can make with a competent music-making program if I have time as well.
>>222
Very nice.
Even though I'm tempted, I'll leave D A D D Y C O R E as my only submission, seeing that it's like 7 minutes long.
If I'm not too tired tonight I'm thinking of doing a track for this.
Then again, I've been saying that since the first DQN Electronics.
>>227
:3
But yes, again it did not happen. I feel asleep and the producer was out.
But it shall, it shall. I'm just always worried about how well it will mesh with the other tracks on the album considering I make music "professionally" and it will probably sound way different than everything else and possibly not as QUALITY if you know what i'm sayin.
>>228
How many years of experience do you have? I just recently started messing around with trackers and synths, and I'd like to do something for the next album.
I play cello; but when it comes to composing... how do you learn that?
>>229
You keep making tracks and trashing them until you make one that's acceptable.
>>228
Everything already sounds way different from everything else! You could take this as an opportunity to do things way differently than usual, or add some sort of challenge to the process.
Our low requirements and vague theme are mostly an invitation for VIPPERs who never make music to attempt it anyways, so nobody seems to think of it as a competition anyway.
> when it comes to composing... how do you learn that?
Start by arranging random notes of a specific scale in pretty geometric patterns on the grid, modify until you like it.
Figure out or read about a handful of new tricks then make a new song, using those tricks when you feel like they work for you. Repeat.
We have a (needlessly nerdy) linkdump about our favorite music software on the tanasinn.info wiki, and I totally urge you not to think and feel and download one of them and do some loud noises : http://tanasinn.info/wiki/VIP_music_software
>>233
Thanks for the info, I've already got a bunch of the softwares, Renoise is prolly my favorite so far. Guess it's just a matter of practice until I can make something worth listening to.
How much time do I have left to make some beeps and boops on a recording?
> Please try to send your submissions before May 27th. The project will be released on June 1st as a torrent, mediafire/rapidshare download, and long-term direct download mirror.
Maybe I'll have the opportunity (and determination) to assault the inevitable next one with my sonic VIPwaves. Until then I'll be enjoying others' productions!
I realized I'd put it off longer than long enough, so I just now threw this together in MilkyTracker. Hand-drawn samples (except the white noise, but nobody cares about white noise). Mrowr. Hope it's not too late.

Actually, if someone wants to send stuff late, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. But if you have not sent it by the 29th, then make sure to send me a mail or post here to tell me that I should wait a few more hours before finalizing the files.
>>240
He definitely is, we confirmed it in a secret shadowy meeting (by which I mean bumping into him at random on the minecraft server).

You're just jealous you can't compose such a masterpiece as ARARARARARARARARARARARARARARARARAGI-SAN, with it's brilliant minimalist and italian post-expressionist undertones. Philistine.
Anybody with an OK voice and a decent mic cares to attempt to replace vocals that are currently badly vocaloid'd?
Of course, it would have to be done today or tomorrow.
The part should be stupidly easy to sing if unlike me you can sing at all. Reply with your mail or send me a mail to dqn.dqn.lol@gmail.com, I'll send you the current files and lyrics.
Thanks for the offer! I sent a reply with explanations and a link to a pack of files you'll need.
I'm so excited to partake in some great audio-based VIP QUALITY tomorrow!
Seems like >>250 didn't notice we'd release today and hoped to do it this week-end, but might try, told me so just now... If anyone else wanna try a last-minute recording let me know. I guess I'll attempt something or axe the song, I'd rather not push back the date again.
Wait... actually, let's not discard the idea yet. Would anybody who has not participated would do so if we added one more week to work on stuff? I'd feel less bad about being the one who made the release late twice.
Why rush things? There will be another album right?
I vote for keeping the deadline.
I'd like to say I'll contribute a song if you delay the release, but I'm not sure if it'll be good enough for my – or anyone else's – approval. I can sure as hell try, though.
Of course everyone is eager to enjoy the finished product, but taking as much time as possible to improve it will not only ensure quality, but also artificially increase each individual album's worth. (Taken directly from Blizzard's company bible)
We should delay the release every week, and rename it Tabitha "Tablecat" Catherine's Super Off-Table Formula VIP Nukem Forever
I can contribute one or two tracks if given a few days.
I'd contribute, but I'm too lazy.
I agree with >>255. If people rush making music so last minute and don't give themselves time to make it truly VIP, it might not have as much VIP QUALITY as it would if it were just submitted for the third VIPtronic album. Just a thought...and also, it's good to stick to deadlines.
I, too, agree with >>255. If we don't stick to deadlines, I might actually have something read for VIPtronic Vol. 2, in December.
If there's not enough material, then by all means, extend the deadline, but otherwise, package it so that we may have more VIP QUALITY musics.
I'm still hoping for an "Unguided Tour of the Tanasinn Chamber"
All right then. We'll get it packaged today, hopefully before 23:59 SAoVQ time.
Damn... the links in >>177,178,187 have gone cold... I should still have the files on storage somewhere, but I won't be able to confirm I have the right files/tags/version...
Really sorry about dropping the ball like this repeatedly near the end but... If the original uploaders see this message, please reupload or send them.

>>267
I think Genocide's still trying to get it out by 23:59 SAoVQ time, though. Godspeed to you and your VIPtronic work, VIPPER.
I am... but unfortunately my file sorting strategy is mostly "rename the downloads folder to downloads-YYYY-MM whenever it exceeds 10GB" and I am currently being proved that it does not work very well.
If I suspect I am missing one file, I will delay finalizing the release until 23:00, but I arranged to have the whole day (well, night for me) available so I'm finishing other things in the mean time (mostly working on a song I'd rather not axe for low quality)

Also, did you try to look through the downloads folder in order of date created/modified?
>>272
Thanks, that helps.
Actually the real problems are:
I hate the sound of autotune almost as much as that of my own voice, but I'm giving up... That's the only way the song can get on the album on time...
>>275
Unfortunately that barely helped. Maybe people will find the results less embarrassing than I do.
Anyway, I know for sure I am missing one of the submissions by evelyn. Sorry ;_;
I say we might as well just release what we have now and then make super sure the missing stuff goes on the third album.
>>277
I was hoping to wait for people to forget my screw-ups before that!
But anyway, I'm game, as organizer or as participant. Given it took us 6 months, should we set the same (firm and unmovable) deadline, 2011-01-01?
>>279
I think that'll keep this from moving an endless number of one-more-weeks backwards.
>I make music "professionally" and it will probably sound way different than everything else and possibly not as QUALITY if you know what i'm sayin.
I'm curious if you ever submitted a track, and if so which one. None of the tracks really stands out to me as being significantly better or worse than the others, they all sound VIP QUALITY to me!
VIPtronic on vinyl: A possibility?
>>283
I am quite on board with this, after an interesting discussion about how this is actually somehow possible.
>>284
The situation as far as I can tell: Average price for a minimum of 100 units of 12-inch vinyl is around $900 plus S/H. A better idea of what would be on the album would be required to get a more accurate quote, but that's all I have to go on thus far.
Basically, the process would go:
I'd like to add that this album cannot be more than 36 minutes (18 minutes on each side) so it'd have to be a more exclusive selection of music (meaning more VIP QUALITY per track because people will really put a lot of VIP QUALITY EFFORT into them?), and perhaps a collaboration with another related community to make it viable is a possibility as well.
>>286
This. Perhaps something like the VIPtronic vs. DQN ELECTRONICS album suggested in the channel?
>>288
If we can get DQN ELECTRONICS people on board, then yes. We should work on scouting interest.
Since the selection would be more exclusive, I think it would be good to go for some collaborative tracks. That way you have two people ensuring the track's QUALITY and more people can be involved. And of course somebody should also master the album so it sounds even more VIP!
>>290
Are we talking self-mastering or professional mastering? Because if it's the latter, then the price increases by about $150 a side.
We definitely should try to use our own skills whenever possible. Volume leveling will be enough. We just need to...uh...do it this time, since it's more important to do it on something like this than on the Internet releases.
An additional point to note is that all samples have to be cleared. As of 2005, there is pretty much no such thing as fair use for samples. Nobody will press a record unless they get all the proper licensing and other legal stuff sorted.
Basically what this means is that sampling has to be kept to a minimum unless you want to pay licensing costs. :\
>>293
Or, at least, that's what some pressers say. Others just claim no legal liability. Either way, legal details will have to be settled beforehand if such a project gets off the ground.
>>283-294
First, note that I have not participated in the discussion you mentioned (I never use IRC).
I must quite bluntly say I am not very interested in making the VIPTRONIC project into a high-quality-standards, legally-clean, physically-released, money-involved kinda racket.
Of course, if other people want to make it happen, I have no reason to attempt to prevent it.
But let's review a few facts:
A. We had less than 100 downloads in two weeks.
This time, the torrent having accidentally been the only way to acquire the release, the stats are pretty accurate.
It's safe to assume the http mirrors had very few downloads, too.
Disregard entirely the fapis stats of the 1st homegrown viptronic album. It's almost only bots. I think it reported 300 "downloads" just in the last month.
I don't think we will find 100 vinly fetishists willing to drop money for this stuff.
B. If we remove illegal sampling and illegal covers (that are pretty much impossible to prosecute in free pseudonymous net releases) we'd axe tons of tracks from the previous releases.
For the last one, instances I either noticed or committed:
C. The point of this release in my opinion is just to have fun and get some people who don't usually record music to attempt to do so.
Forgot that wakabamark automatically "fixes" the numbers in lists. Disregard the numbers and use only the titles to know which song I refer to
>>295
Well, the general idea was to make something a little different from the regular VIPtronic albums. I recall suggesting at one point that this was to be a special release and not part of the main VIPtronic series, which are made "just to have fun" like you stated in C. What we were thinking of was a special one-time thing where we make something that will be enjoyed by VIPPERs for many generations.
The general idea was not to make a commercial release. Nobody intends to make a profit here. We just want to break even or get something a little close to that. We want to try to do something that will cause an exceptional piece of VIP QUALITY unlike any other before it, but it costs VIP COINS.
Now, I'd also like to point out that we were strongly considering the fact we wouldn't get 100 VIPPERs from SAoVQ to buy a VIPtronic vinyl. That's why we were going to reach out to communities with similar interests, like the ones suggested earlier (and especially DQN). If we do so, we'd have more of a shot at realistically doing this.
As for sampling, well, obviously we'd be making original tracks for this special album. The best VIP QUALITY is the kind made entirely from original material, no matter how much we love to copy and paste AA. I'd expect people to make an effort to record their own VIP vocals and collaborate in any way possible, because that's how VIPPERs operate.
We would have trashed the idea in IRC if we thought it wasn't entirely possible. I personally would love to see you in on this project as well, so don't think, feel, and you will be tanasinn.
Given that, like most people, listening to vinly requires hoping that my family's 60's hardware still works, I'm not very excited about it.
I also don't like the idea of drawing unnecessary attention to SAoVQ. But if this is going to happen, and if there's a a digital version of the release, then I'd definitely submit a quality (or at least, not half-assed) track.
I'll wait and see what you guys prefer to do for now.
We don't have to explicitly advertise that this is a product of SAoVQ...it's a product of VIP QUALITY. SAoVQ just happens to be a secret area of VIP QUALITY, and we don't have any obligation to direct people here. It'd have as much connection at the end as DQN ELECTRONICS releases (since they're on tanasinn.info), and those haven't ruined us or anything.
I see your misgivings, but hey, it'd be pretty VIP regardless. If nothing else, we'd have a lot of fun making something like this and feel an accomplishment as a VIP community that we were able to pull something as crazy as this off.
Once we make some contacts and try to think the specifics through more, it'll become more apparent if it's possible or not. I'm remaining optimistic.
>>295
>>298
As DJ Zovi has said, this would most likely require a collaborative effort with another community of VIP-minded individuals.
Secondly, with regards to sampling, not all pressers are so anal. Some of them just give a warning up front that the legal liability lies upon whomever is soliciting the order. If it came right down to it, I would be willing to accept some of the liability.
Since this release is likely to be fairly limited in number and pretty much limited only to those who would be willing to donate in advance, it wouldn't really be advertising SAoVQ. By the way, nobody would be making a profit off of this because there is really no profit to be made in vinyl; it's strictly a break-even operation.
I know something like this requires a great deal of effort, time, and such, but I think it would be awesome if we could have something on physical media to fill our ears with VIP QUALITY.
