[GAMING] Post VIP Games [BONDING] (387)

Post about games that are of VIP Quality or need VIPPER attention!

I'll start with Dwarf Fortress for obvious reasons! ( ˃ ヮ˂)

Next up is Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst!
Sometimes I play with Japanese VIPPERs, they often don't speak a word of English but sometimes we swap emoticons! My SJIS for theirs! ( ゚ ヮ゚)

If I'm lucky, I'll see a VIPPER or two in TF2! Yes, on Weeabootique, though I rarely play anymore. ( ゚ -゚)

I understand it isn't cooperative, but does a VIPPER recommend playing Yume Nikki? It seems right up my alley.

>102 It's pretty good if you're into games like Myst and solving (fairly simple) item-themed puzzles. If it seems right up your alley I don't know why you're asking though.

I downloaded Technic Beat back when it was posted in december then I let it sit on my computer for no good reason until today. The concept is pretty awesome, but the music I heard so far isn't. Quite a disappointment, given how much I like a lot of stuff the supersweep guys did.

Belated technic beat player from >>111 posting, is the snorkel-wearing... thing ... supposed to be an easy modo character? The trade-off of a slower speed for perfects every time seems to be quite really unbalanced, but I didn't unlock anything with more than 4 stars yet.

I am trying to make it work with emulators to play it co-op online with fellow VIPPERS.

119 Name: VIPPER : 2009-03-27 23:36 [Del]

LittleBigPlanet could use some VIP quality levels. There are a few decent levels on the online community and even a 2ch influence but I feel we could make some incredibly decent levels if we put some time into them. But then again I suppose there aren't many people with PS3s -AND- LBP. If you happen to have a PS3 you should really check/rent it out. It is the only game in the last few years to make me feel like a little unwrapping a SNES again on Christmas morning. P.S. I've been working on a Yume Nikki LBP level that will definately be of VIP quality!

120 Name: VIPPER : 2009-03-29 05:21 [Del]

>>119
I need to play LBP, i haven't played it in awhile since the whole "moderation" thing happened, peoples levels getting deleted all over.

121 Name: VIPPER : 2009-03-31 12:11 [Del]

>>120
I was under the impression that 'moderation' was just a halfassed legal thing so that they didn't get sued considering sony owns all created content. There are still plenty of copyright violating levels though. Is there more to this story or did I miss the point?

I caved in and ordered Demon's Souls.

No, that character is medium mode

Rain (the girl with pigtails) and the main character (forget it's name it's wearing a costume with bubble things on it's head) are easy modo

trust me even on easy modo shit gets ridiculous (around the 7 star level)

I've been playing Etrian Odyssey 2 again. I finally beat the cocksucker of a first stratum boss. I don't remember the first game being this hard. Then again, EO1 had a level 70 cap, not a 99 one, so there's more grinding to be done. And then again, you can't abuse the hell out of Immunize and Defender because they aren't here this time around. And then again, my current party set-up is a little hard to work with because most of the characters are better suited for the back-row. It'd be nice if I could have one dude in the front and everyone else in the back. (My party is a Ronin, Troubadour, Gunner, Survivalist, and a Medic.) Any recommendations for what I should swap out will be appreciated. ('A` )

But it's a good thing they changed a lot of things, or else it would be like playing the same game all over again. But hey, this second stratum is looking pretty cool.

>>125
I'm playing it after finally beating the first one, and finding it to be quite the slog as well. Since a lot has changed, I don't know what characters/skills are the best, and it's difficult. I am only on the third floor. My party is a Ronin, War Magus, Dark Hunter, Gunner, and Hexer, but I don't know how well it will work out. After all, I had to make about 3 parties in EO I before I finally got it right.

Bumping the general gaming thread, because after a while you need to chill from dodging all the pink bullets.

I have been playing SMT:Devil Survivor on the DS obsessively for the last 3 days. It's like TWEWY:Megaten SRPG Edition, without emos.

For a series of games that is often so player-hostile and intentionally badly designed, I really like that they went in the opposite direction without being easy or lacking in minutiae to configure. Having absolutely no inventory or equipment, and letting you set up your team and skills after seeing the field and the full profile of your enemies - that's how all this kind of games should have been played all along. Now you stand a chance even without a strategy guide or crazy grinding.

Still wish they dropped the nameless silent protagonist. You make so frequently choices with only one option or two almost-identical options, it's as if you were speaking.

>>Still wish they dropped the nameless silent protagonist. You make so frequently choices with only one option or two almost-identical options, it's as if you were speaking.

The nameless silent protagonist is supposed to be the hero, ie. you.

I'm a huge fan of them. It's one of the reasons I like games like Dragon Quest, SMT or even having custom parties created from scratch in games like Final Fantasy Legend 1/2 or Etrian Odyssey.

140 Name: VIPPER : 2009-10-04 06:57 [Del]

>>139
But in DS, your starting party is comprised of two friends you've known for years, and another character is a cousin: everyone seems alive except you, your character seems like a dead puppet along for the ride.
They are already using the "multiple choices" boxes to force you to say things, often giving you only one option which you have no choice but select and confirm: what wrong would it do to allow the character to state the obvious and make small talk, while still letting you make the storyline choice?

Zangeki Reginleiv. Never mind that it's a M-rated game from Nintendo, that doesn't really matter. What does matter is that it's by the people who made EARTH DEFENSE FORCE, it has swords and it has online coop. EDF2017 would have been perfect if it had online co-op.

...and a sequel to Hotel Dusk? Goddamn, I'm frothing uncontrollably. I hope these games make it over here.

I have gotten really into Monster Hunter Freedom Unite recently. It's awesome!

146 Name: VIPPER : 2010-01-06 00:57 [Del]

I've got to say that from what I heard of FF13 I have become so non-jaded and uncynical about it that I might possibly buy it.

Besides DS, I have been playing The Saboteur recently. It's like the guys at the top of the team wanted to do a great game and the rest of the team proceeded to do the most generic GTA clone ever, then after they fired that team EA dumped it into the stores without any advertising or support whatsoever.
I only mention that because I am already pissed off at what will be the result: "The public didn't reward innovation so we should stop doing WW2 single-player resistance GTAs and do WW2 FPS instead".

I feel similar about this pretentious David Cage self-aggrandizer, whose likeness was used to provide the tutorial of his previous movie, who claims that his upcoming QTE FMV non-game Heavy Rain should be taken as a yardstick to gauge the public's acceptance for "innovation".

Man do I hate current videogames. They only come in "innovative" and "murder simulator" flavors and both taste the same.

I'll go back to playing Bangai-O spirits.

The beginning should have been the hardest part, but I didn't plan my stats right and had to do 3-2 an 5-1 (the two stages full of pitfalls) near the end. The high level I reached makes it less braggable than I hoped, but I was so scared after that to screw up the False King (my normal attacks were not strong enough for me to be confident so I ran away) that I powerleveled way too much, to improve my DEX so I could skip the fight by sniping him with white arrows.

> I would like to try a Hokuto no Ken run using Hands of Gods myself

Those you find before flamelurker? Or a crazy suicide run by killing both blacksmiths? Good luck either way!

>>174

> I thought you were able to kill him.

You can, but you still get to die after that, in a much more glorious way. Here's a vid of someone doing that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gssC68oS6kg
Fight starts around 3:30 and what happens after it around 4:40

>>176
You better go shirtless then! Good luck, VIPPER!

You know what would be awesome for this game? Not an additional level, but a new roguelike mode. You'd travel the exact same levels, but when you create your character, the location of enemies and items would be entirely randomized and stay the same for the rest of that game. It might result in some almost unwinnable games, but that's the point. Anyway, I guess it's too late to hope for add-ons, unless it gets picked up for EU release.

>>181
So I stared it today. It was a pain getting up to 2-2, but it's been a bit smoother now. I still get wrecked in all of area 5 because my fists have zero range, half of the meat shields have lances, and I get cornered by falling enemies every ten seconds and die. They don't even go into hitstun half of the time. Oh, and to make it worse I can't set my fists on fire to kill the leechmonger...

I am. I used to love FFXI, and FFXIV promises to fix all that was wrong with XI (/sh LOOKING FOR PARTY). I will almost definitely get it.

186 Name: VIPPER : 2010-01-24 22:20 [Del]

>>183
It depends on how casual-friendly they make it. I actually enjoyed the difficulty level of FFXI, and to be honest I wouldn't mind if they made certain elements even harder. At this point in the game's life, the only two events that are still challenging are PW and AV, the latter of which is almost technically impossible, so it's not even attempted.

I'm a bit skeptical about XIV given SE's track record, and some of what's been said in the interviews on the game have me worried, but I have high hopes nonetheless. I just hope the game doesn't become as top-heavy as FFXI is. Practically everyone in the game has at least two 75 jobs these days, and trying to find groups to do anything other than the same old endgame events we've been doing for almost a decade now is almost impossible. RoTZ endgame was probably the biggest mistake SE ever made. The fact that some people have been doing Dynamis since the NA release and STILL haven't gotten the gear they want is just sad. At least they learned their lesson about that though.

I've ran into people on MAG with VIP and DQN in their clan tags.

Wow, a new Front Mission game. I've always loved Front Mission (especially 3). This is an action game but I like AC as well so this should be pretty good.

>>196-san I've heard a lot of things about Minecraft but I still don't know that I want to try it out. Maybe someone should convince me.

I have tried it. It seems to have great potential for QUALITY. Unfortunately I kept getting indexOutOfBounds exceptions. This points to Java programming that seriously lacks QUALITY.

Yes and I found it to be very VIP.
We should create a VIPPER server and build giant oversized mittens!

That's a neat toy, but I don't get what will eventually make it worth €20.

>>199, I am >>196 and recently purchased it and must report on the Indev build (you can only access by purchasing) which is very interesting in that it is more of a game than the toy that Creative mode is. Hollowing out glorious floating islands, constructing magnificent fortresses, and battling the horrific monsters that spawn in dark places is actually quite pleasant (except for the monsters who can be a little creepy when they sneak up on you!).

Think of it maybe like a simplistic Dwarf Fortress from the first person? And the creator is constantly adding new things to it - it's all very exciting you see.

I think that I might try my hand at some VIP QUALITY skins soon.
