Post about games that are of VIP Quality or need VIPPER attention!
I'll start with Dwarf Fortress for obvious reasons! ( ˃ ヮ˂)
Next up is Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst!
Sometimes I play with Japanese VIPPERs, they often don't speak a word of English but sometimes we swap emoticons! My SJIS for theirs! ( ゚ ヮ゚)
If I'm lucky, I'll see a VIPPER or two in TF2! Yes, on Weeabootique, though I rarely play anymore. ( ゚ -゚)
Hey guys a VIPPER friend and I are going to play FFXI the trial for the next two weeks and see how it is. Anyone want to join in? We'll be playing on Bahamut I think... Here's the link http://www.fileplanet.com/192215/download/FINAL-FANTASY-XI-14-Day-Free-Trial
Do VIPPERs like RTS?
>>82
RTS games challenge my brain. I would like to just build base defense, or just slaughter my enemies, but not both! I can't focus. I'm sure VIPPERs prefer games such as http://raptorsafari.com/play.php, which I'm having a lot of fun HITTING RAPTORS and DOING SICK STUNTS.
>>83
That's my problem with RTSs. SRPGs are nice because I can take my time and plan my attack because I'm a scrub. ('A` )
I guarantee you that it is. It is definitely worth the installation of that thing they require. The same developer also made http://blurst.com/jetpack-brontosaurus/play, which is a delight. "Discover the splendid jetpack dreams of the Apatasaurus named "Brontosaurus"." It is a joke, right? Look at the serene environments, the elegant yet thumping Brontosaurus, the quivers of smoke puffed out by his jetpack, the small helmet atop his tiny head. The hauntingly beautiful music. It's like, it is a joke, but at the same time, it isn't. It made me very happy.
So . . .
I just learned that what there is in beta is all of MegaTen ONLINE. Sure, there's demon collecting (but it needs REAL MONIEZ), some side-quests, you can make some cool weapons, kill some demons that only look different than demons from early game, and, yeah, "grind". Not to mention that the difficulty level was a disappointment. Defeating a boss on the first try is not something I would expect from my favourite series.
I think that I'll stick to the regular MegaTen games.
>on Weeabootique
Cool server bro
>>87
Don't worry, later bosses will kill you.
Bronze dungeons and the first few acts are supposed to be easy.
Age of Conan is the best MMORPG I've ever played! I get to relive the Hyborian age by having all the epic adventures of Conan and Red Sonya, with realistic fantasy combat like an action game, but online with a band of players who travel the land in search of loot and women, and although the rape sequences are censored, I'm hoping there will be a patch in the near future. Also, slaying the serpent emperor is epic in itself, I have never felt this good playing a game before, single player or otherwise. Remember in the movie where he grabs the snake head and rips it clean off? Yeah, it's better than that.
Every boss has a beautifully scripted action sequence, you think FFXI had some good cutscenes, goddamn this had some that made me cry. But you know what, the dynamic plot is great and all, hell I love eradicating an entire town of serpentmen just so the next group has nothing to do there but set up a few trading bazaars or set up a bandit camp, but honestly, the fun comes in just wandering. Wandering the desert and encountering completely random, batshit crazy enemies that are challenging, yeah, but they don't just kill you in one hit for being the wrong level. No, these things fight like they mean it, like you were watching 300 and controlling the goddamn action. You remember when one of the Spartans jumps and thrusts his spear in the guy's chest? That's got nothing on the combat system in this game.
They were right about the first twenty levels feeling like a single player game on its own. I would pay money just to play the single player portion on PS3. You know that Conan game they released on consoles? It's like an upgraded version, since they can refine the combat at any time with patches. So you're playing this game and then before you know it, fuck you're interacting with people all over the world who want to kick just as much ass as you do, like in the second movie where he picks up a random RPG party and starts kicking ass, and somehow they managed to get PVP right. I mean it's fun, actually fun, and you don't feel griefed just because someone comes out of hiding and attacks you. I don't know how they managed to balanced it, but it feels more like a fighting game with equal stats than a system that relies on level and stat differences.
Anyway, the name of the game speaks for itself- Age of Conan. What could be more badass?
>>90
Whoops, accidentally posted about a terrible game. Won't happen again, apologies.
Hi my name is ACIDCAT and I'm excited about DARKFALL ONRINE? If only VIPPERS and /v/ippers could get a long then maybe we'd have a guild with 200+ people...
Oh well I'll just leave this link...
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/vdark
>>94 I'm sorry to inform you of this but Darkfall is very clearly going to bomb horribly, just like all of the other "SAVIOR OF MMOS" games that have come out in the last year.
MMORPGs can't have a savior, because they can't be saved. It's a hopeless genre.
I've been waiting for Atriarch for ten years.
Shobon
Nullpo
Where are you.
>>98
My internet is dead and I can only rarely get on for short spurts of time. I think we are done with Megaten though. It gets boring later. Sorry!
100GET
New version of MAME supports Tetris The Grand Master 2 Plus. This is some SERIOUSLY HARDCORE TETRIS.
I understand it isn't cooperative, but does a VIPPER recommend playing Yume Nikki? It seems right up my alley.
>102 It's pretty good if you're into games like Myst and solving (fairly simple) item-themed puzzles. If it seems right up your alley I don't know why you're asking though.
>>103
Because I am at work, and I need hopeful thoughts to stop my soul from crushing under the pressure.
>>102
I found it boring myself. Too much slow walking around. You might like it though if you're more patient than I am.
>>102
It was a wonderful experience for me, at least. I really enjoyed the background music, and the added eeriness.
>>102
I never got around to playing it but nevertheless have been immersed in the atmosphere through related discussions and YouTube coverage enough to recommend it to you.
Play Yume Nikki! Change your life
I downloaded Technic Beat back when it was posted in december then I let it sit on my computer for no good reason until today. The concept is pretty awesome, but the music I heard so far isn't. Quite a disappointment, given how much I like a lot of stuff the supersweep guys did.
Drift City is a cool free racing MMO.
drift.ijji.com
I'm playing Dragon Quest V, shit is so gold pieces.
The start of the game is just amazing.
Belated technic beat player from >>111 posting, is the snorkel-wearing... thing ... supposed to be an easy modo character? The trade-off of a slower speed for perfects every time seems to be quite really unbalanced, but I didn't unlock anything with more than 4 stars yet.
Metal Slug is pure VIP quality.
There is a new Yumi Nikki video: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5869922
http://www.famitsu.com/freegame/rtp/2000_rtp.html Also you need this or it will crash. FUCK YEAH
>>115
I am trying to make it work with emulators to play it co-op online with fellow VIPPERS.
LittleBigPlanet could use some VIP quality levels. There are a few decent levels on the online community and even a 2ch influence but I feel we could make some incredibly decent levels if we put some time into them. But then again I suppose there aren't many people with PS3s -AND- LBP. If you happen to have a PS3 you should really check/rent it out. It is the only game in the last few years to make me feel like a little unwrapping a SNES again on Christmas morning. P.S. I've been working on a Yume Nikki LBP level that will definately be of VIP quality!
>>119
I need to play LBP, i haven't played it in awhile since the whole "moderation" thing happened, peoples levels getting deleted all over.
>>120
I was under the impression that 'moderation' was just a halfassed legal thing so that they didn't get sued considering sony owns all created content. There are still plenty of copyright violating levels though. Is there more to this story or did I miss the point?
I caved in and ordered Demon's Souls.
No, that character is medium mode
Rain (the girl with pigtails) and the main character (forget it's name it's wearing a costume with bubble things on it's head) are easy modo
trust me even on easy modo shit gets ridiculous (around the 7 star level)
( ´・ω・) It's the only English speaking server with the full game available!
Is anyone playing Demon's Souls? It's an amazing game!
>>128
The online part is pure genius. A lot of games can learn from this.
>>125
I'm playing it after finally beating the first one, and finding it to be quite the slog as well. Since a lot has changed, I don't know what characters/skills are the best, and it's difficult. I am only on the third floor. My party is a Ronin, War Magus, Dark Hunter, Gunner, and Hexer, but I don't know how well it will work out. After all, I had to make about 3 parties in EO I before I finally got it right.
Demon's Souls is coming to North America via Atlus.
I'm buying this game again.
That Microsoft conference was something else. A few good games and a lot of bullshit not about video games. They're gonna make a lot of fucking money.
Conference rating:
Sony > Nintendo = Microsoft
Either way, 2009/2010 is gonna be great for gaymen.
I agree, but I greatly enjoyed the liveblogs of Miyamoto's round table conference.
Even if I find that he seems to be greatly obsessed with that virtual island of his.
Bumping the general gaming thread, because after a while you need to chill from dodging all the pink bullets.
I have been playing SMT:Devil Survivor on the DS obsessively for the last 3 days. It's like TWEWY:Megaten SRPG Edition, without emos.
For a series of games that is often so player-hostile and intentionally badly designed, I really like that they went in the opposite direction without being easy or lacking in minutiae to configure. Having absolutely no inventory or equipment, and letting you set up your team and skills after seeing the field and the full profile of your enemies - that's how all this kind of games should have been played all along. Now you stand a chance even without a strategy guide or crazy grinding.
Still wish they dropped the nameless silent protagonist. You make so frequently choices with only one option or two almost-identical options, it's as if you were speaking.
>>Still wish they dropped the nameless silent protagonist. You make so frequently choices with only one option or two almost-identical options, it's as if you were speaking.
The nameless silent protagonist is supposed to be the hero, ie. you.
I'm a huge fan of them. It's one of the reasons I like games like Dragon Quest, SMT or even having custom parties created from scratch in games like Final Fantasy Legend 1/2 or Etrian Odyssey.
>>139
But in DS, your starting party is comprised of two friends you've known for years, and another character is a cousin: everyone seems alive except you, your character seems like a dead puppet along for the ride.
They are already using the "multiple choices" boxes to force you to say things, often giving you only one option which you have no choice but select and confirm: what wrong would it do to allow the character to state the obvious and make small talk, while still letting you make the storyline choice?
Bayonetta is fucking amazing. It's mind blowing how good this game is.
I have gotten really into Monster Hunter Freedom Unite recently. It's awesome!
I need to dig out my copy of MHFU and play now that I sold my consoles.
I'm currently looking for a VIP quality game to play, because I'm getting really bored.
I'm going to browse this thread for titles, and if I find nothing, I shall embark on a quest to find a good game.
Wish me luck.
La-mulana.
It's free, it is a great throw back to oldschool platformers, and it is retardedly difficult.
Don't like thinking your way through abstract puzzles and guessing where hidden rooms are? Not your game.
i like altitude flying plane battle game.
i guess its kinda like soldat, or maybe infantry
Haha, awesome. Paul Robertson's art is crazy!
http://www.firstpersontetris.com/
Play in Night Mode for maximum fun.
How long until we get a VIPPER Fortress succession game?
>>158
I would like a VIPPER Fortress game. I enjoy the idea of Dwarf Fortress even though I don't play it.
2CATTTT
HAHAHAHA
2CAAAAAAAATTTTT
That settles it! Who's up for a fine game of VIPPER Fortress?
>>156
When I first played night mode it looked like nothing was happening so I was very confused. It seemed like space bar was the only key that did anything. I decided the goal of the game must be just to hold down space bar. So I just held space bar down and quality gaming ensued.
>>160
I wish someone would actually make this. This or a shmup where you are a bu-n.
>>162
Hello VIPPER I have come to grant one of your wishes.
http://awplus.jp/soft/page1/bi/boon.html
It's actually pretty good too.
It might just be me, but nightmode somehow made the game seem easier.
>>163
I can't get the boon.exe file to run correctly... I'm using 7-Zip to open the files...
>>167
I had the same problem. Maybe try running it in windowed mode?
>>164
I thought so, too. Less "LOLSORETROxD" stuff distracting you.
>>172
That's impressive. I am very impressed. I would like to try a Hokuto no Ken run using Hands of Gods myself. That will be next.
>>173
The beginning should have been the hardest part, but I didn't plan my stats right and had to do 3-2 an 5-1 (the two stages full of pitfalls) near the end. The high level I reached makes it less braggable than I hoped, but I was so scared after that to screw up the False King (my normal attacks were not strong enough for me to be confident so I ran away) that I powerleveled way too much, to improve my DEX so I could skip the fight by sniping him with white arrows.
> I would like to try a Hokuto no Ken run using Hands of Gods myself
Those you find before flamelurker? Or a crazy suicide run by killing both blacksmiths? Good luck either way!
> I thought you were able to kill him.
You can, but you still get to die after that, in a much more glorious way. Here's a vid of someone doing that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gssC68oS6kg
Fight starts around 3:30 and what happens after it around 4:40
Of course, I just skipped to the nexus as offered after you complete the game once, and arrived in body form.
>>175
The ones before Flamelurker. I'll use bare fists or knuckles up until them.
>>176
You better go shirtless then! Good luck, VIPPER!
You know what would be awesome for this game? Not an additional level, but a new roguelike mode. You'd travel the exact same levels, but when you create your character, the location of enemies and items would be entirely randomized and stay the same for the rest of that game. It might result in some almost unwinnable games, but that's the point. Anyway, I guess it's too late to hope for add-ons, unless it gets picked up for EU release.
Any VIPPERs gonna pick up TvC, maybe?
>>178
Don't have a Wii, or else I probably would.
I'm totally getting SSFIV when it comes out.

This is a VIP Quality flash fighting game. You can download the whole thing here: http://grooness.at.infoseek.co.jp/aa_out_break.zip
