Would this be a good idea? I was thinking of starting developing one for the sega cd, something like this http://www.geocities.com/eiennarufuyu/advsys.zip A sort of visual novel game. It would be rather easy to make using BasiEgaXorz (a basic comiler for the genesis/sega cd/32x). If we make it for the sega cd we can put cd quality music into the game! However I can't make music, or graphics, or a story line for the game... is any VIPPERS willing to provide there talents?
Programming OP have you been working on this at all? Is there any progress thus far?

Now that you mention it...

A little way back I wrote some stuff for this, saved it on a flash drive, and then lost it three and a half thousand miles away from where I live. To be honest I was quite impressed with my losing shit skills.
I would do it over but I'm currently writing a play so that I can become a fashionable young playwright and have people like me and and take me out to eat at nice restaurants, so I'm afraid I'll be busy for a while.
I tried to learn basiegaxorz, but i didn't have the motivation to continue. Is it actually impossible to produce a collaborative project, or does it merely require some sort of non-VIP character trait?
>>206
VIPPERs are surprisingly busy. I think we are all college students for the most part. Otherwise we are just lazy. Lazy and busy.
I LIKE THIS THREAD
IT IS THE ONLY THREAD I HAVE EVER LIKED

Bumping from the tanasinn chamber.
>>209
It's not possible to bump from within the chamber. Are you the chamber's operator?
>>210
Σ(゚д゚ )The chamber's operator!? But, he went missing after venturing into the chamber itself!
Did the guy working on this disappear entirely?
>>190 here, I'm still around if someone wants to continue this project

Hey, why the hell not? I'm sure we have a decent enough programmer. I can write. Or fuck it and just turn this into a shmup.
What all needs to be contributed? I would love to help, but I doubt I could.
>>217
Art/writing storyline/programmer now (I am assuming the original project starter is no longer around/interested). We have some of the art already, I think a few scenes were done. We could instead just do a shmup though.
Oh I'm not comfortable with membership. Can we affiliate with it instead?
> Or fuck it and just turn this into a shmup.
This is suddenly inspiring me.
What if... we make a shmup where you actually TRY to get hit?
Story and Gameplay: DADDYCOOL is your homeowner. You have to payHimENoUgh. To do so, you fly with your vessel through hordes of "enemies" flinging coins.
The more you get hit by the pennies, the more you earn.
But if you crash into the enemies headfirst, you lose money.
At the end of each level there's a boss.
When you get hit there's a money loss.
Your Mom, the IRS and the Dentist of Doom
are ready to make your finances go boom.
If you can save something from their greed,
you can buy the bonuses that you need.
Complaining the money is never enough?
Just ask Ya-chan to loan you some dough;
just keep up with the rates and don't lose,
so you can avoid the cement shoes.
Not as it is described. STGs where enemies use their own trajectory as the main source of danger in the game are rarely very enjoyable in my opinion and experience.
I am >>222.

I must admit I am not a shmup connoisseur, so my opinions are not very much qualified. Still, I think you have a point there.
I didn't mean it like "the enemies will come at you from every direction trying to kill you", rather something along the lines of "if you stumble over them it's gonna hurt."
This was meant to put some difficulty in the levels before reaching the boss, without the hassle of doing two type of shots or enemies (ones that hurt you and ones that benefit you.) The difficulty can be still tweaked by changing the number of coins you must get to reach the next level.
すみません if I'm not using sage yet.
I would like to see the project resume the original VN plan. If any help is needed with the project, I might be able to lend a hand. I have some decent programming skills. I'm very good with Python and I can cope with lower level languages like C.
Does anyone know where to find any useful information on programming for the PC-98?
What about a SAoVQ DOOM WAD?

Good luck, youll need it!
On a related note, there's an extremely noob friendly DS game making product around titled simply "DS Game Maker." It's a commercial product but it's not very expensive and there's a limited free version as well. Apparently one can play the exported games on an emulator as well as an actual DS using one of those piratey card things.
I made the following microgame with minimal effort and no coding knowledge whatsoever. Click (or tap if you're trying it on a DS) the aesthetically displeasing red and white button to progress to the second and final screen!
http://tablecat.webs.com/VIPTEST_DS.nds
The free version is limited in that you can't add sound or more than 3 "rooms" and it adds the advertisement splash screen at the start.
Perhaps this information can be put to use for a future game.
Maybe split into separate games?
We could use these threads as the central hub for all discussion.
I am actually quite partial toward Moebius's sentiment of staying with the original VN idea, whether tooled for 90's era console or for PC.
I won't ever give up on this project.
Even a very small and simple game would be fine.
