Post about games that are of VIP Quality or need VIPPER attention!
I'll start with Dwarf Fortress for obvious reasons! ( ˃ ヮ˂)
Next up is Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst!
Sometimes I play with Japanese VIPPERs, they often don't speak a word of English but sometimes we swap emoticons! My SJIS for theirs! ( ゚ ヮ゚)
If I'm lucky, I'll see a VIPPER or two in TF2! Yes, on Weeabootique, though I rarely play anymore. ( ゚ -゚)
Bumping the general gaming thread, because after a while you need to chill from dodging all the pink bullets.
I have been playing SMT:Devil Survivor on the DS obsessively for the last 3 days. It's like TWEWY:Megaten SRPG Edition, without emos.
For a series of games that is often so player-hostile and intentionally badly designed, I really like that they went in the opposite direction without being easy or lacking in minutiae to configure. Having absolutely no inventory or equipment, and letting you set up your team and skills after seeing the field and the full profile of your enemies - that's how all this kind of games should have been played all along. Now you stand a chance even without a strategy guide or crazy grinding.
Still wish they dropped the nameless silent protagonist. You make so frequently choices with only one option or two almost-identical options, it's as if you were speaking.
>>Still wish they dropped the nameless silent protagonist. You make so frequently choices with only one option or two almost-identical options, it's as if you were speaking.
The nameless silent protagonist is supposed to be the hero, ie. you.
I'm a huge fan of them. It's one of the reasons I like games like Dragon Quest, SMT or even having custom parties created from scratch in games like Final Fantasy Legend 1/2 or Etrian Odyssey.
>>139
But in DS, your starting party is comprised of two friends you've known for years, and another character is a cousin: everyone seems alive except you, your character seems like a dead puppet along for the ride.
They are already using the "multiple choices" boxes to force you to say things, often giving you only one option which you have no choice but select and confirm: what wrong would it do to allow the character to state the obvious and make small talk, while still letting you make the storyline choice?
Bayonetta is fucking amazing. It's mind blowing how good this game is.
I have gotten really into Monster Hunter Freedom Unite recently. It's awesome!
I need to dig out my copy of MHFU and play now that I sold my consoles.
I'm currently looking for a VIP quality game to play, because I'm getting really bored.
I'm going to browse this thread for titles, and if I find nothing, I shall embark on a quest to find a good game.
Wish me luck.
La-mulana.
It's free, it is a great throw back to oldschool platformers, and it is retardedly difficult.
Don't like thinking your way through abstract puzzles and guessing where hidden rooms are? Not your game.
i like altitude flying plane battle game.
i guess its kinda like soldat, or maybe infantry
Haha, awesome. Paul Robertson's art is crazy!

Play in Night Mode for maximum fun.
How long until we get a VIPPER Fortress succession game?
>>158
I would like a VIPPER Fortress game. I enjoy the idea of Dwarf Fortress even though I don't play it.
2CATTTT
HAHAHAHA
2CAAAAAAAATTTTT
That settles it! Who's up for a fine game of VIPPER Fortress?
>>156
When I first played night mode it looked like nothing was happening so I was very confused. It seemed like space bar was the only key that did anything. I decided the goal of the game must be just to hold down space bar. So I just held space bar down and quality gaming ensued.
>>160
I wish someone would actually make this. This or a shmup where you are a bu-n.
>>162
Hello VIPPER I have come to grant one of your wishes.
http://awplus.jp/soft/page1/bi/boon.html
It's actually pretty good too.
It might just be me, but nightmode somehow made the game seem easier.
>>163
I can't get the boon.exe file to run correctly... I'm using 7-Zip to open the files...
>>167
I had the same problem. Maybe try running it in windowed mode?
>>164
I thought so, too. Less "LOLSORETROxD" stuff distracting you.
>>172
That's impressive. I am very impressed. I would like to try a Hokuto no Ken run using Hands of Gods myself. That will be next.
>>173
The beginning should have been the hardest part, but I didn't plan my stats right and had to do 3-2 an 5-1 (the two stages full of pitfalls) near the end. The high level I reached makes it less braggable than I hoped, but I was so scared after that to screw up the False King (my normal attacks were not strong enough for me to be confident so I ran away) that I powerleveled way too much, to improve my DEX so I could skip the fight by sniping him with white arrows.
> I would like to try a Hokuto no Ken run using Hands of Gods myself
Those you find before flamelurker? Or a crazy suicide run by killing both blacksmiths? Good luck either way!
> I thought you were able to kill him.
You can, but you still get to die after that, in a much more glorious way. Here's a vid of someone doing that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gssC68oS6kg
Fight starts around 3:30 and what happens after it around 4:40
Of course, I just skipped to the nexus as offered after you complete the game once, and arrived in body form.
>>175
The ones before Flamelurker. I'll use bare fists or knuckles up until them.
>>176
You better go shirtless then! Good luck, VIPPER!
You know what would be awesome for this game? Not an additional level, but a new roguelike mode. You'd travel the exact same levels, but when you create your character, the location of enemies and items would be entirely randomized and stay the same for the rest of that game. It might result in some almost unwinnable games, but that's the point. Anyway, I guess it's too late to hope for add-ons, unless it gets picked up for EU release.
Any VIPPERs gonna pick up TvC, maybe?
>>178
Don't have a Wii, or else I probably would.
I'm totally getting SSFIV when it comes out.
http://grooness.at.infoseek.co.jp/
This is a VIP Quality flash fighting game. You can download the whole thing here: http://grooness.at.infoseek.co.jp/aa_out_break.zip
>>178
Yeah, I'll be playing it.
And I think I'll try a God Hand run in Demon's Souls after I beat NG+. It gives me incentive to play as the typical HUGE BUFF GUY. You know, if I can even make it to 2-1 unequipped...
>>181
So I stared it today. It was a pain getting up to 2-2, but it's been a bit smoother now. I still get wrecked in all of area 5 because my fists have zero range, half of the meat shields have lances, and I get cornered by falling enemies every ten seconds and die. They don't even go into hitstun half of the time. Oh, and to make it worse I can't set my fists on fire to kill the leechmonger...
Are any VIPPERS looking forward to the glorious game that will be known as FF14?
>>183
The game was completely off my radar until they announced it had no EXP or levelling. Now it depends how the actual game plays.
>>183
I am. I used to love FFXI, and FFXIV promises to fix all that was wrong with XI (/sh LOOKING FOR PARTY). I will almost definitely get it.
>>183
It depends on how casual-friendly they make it. I actually enjoyed the difficulty level of FFXI, and to be honest I wouldn't mind if they made certain elements even harder. At this point in the game's life, the only two events that are still challenging are PW and AV, the latter of which is almost technically impossible, so it's not even attempted.
I'm a bit skeptical about XIV given SE's track record, and some of what's been said in the interviews on the game have me worried, but I have high hopes nonetheless. I just hope the game doesn't become as top-heavy as FFXI is. Practically everyone in the game has at least two 75 jobs these days, and trying to find groups to do anything other than the same old endgame events we've been doing for almost a decade now is almost impossible. RoTZ endgame was probably the biggest mistake SE ever made. The fact that some people have been doing Dynamis since the NA release and STILL haven't gotten the gear they want is just sad. At least they learned their lesson about that though.
What's on everyone's list of VIP games for 2010?
As for me it's:
Monster Hunter Tri
Yakuza 3
3-D Dot Game Hero (clearly going to make a VIP QUALITY character in this)
>>187
Super Street Fighter IV
The Last Guardian
SMT Strange Journey
Infinite Space
Yakuza 3
3-D Dot Game Hero
I recently found a guild of Japanese VIPPERs in an MMO I play. They are hilarious. One of them was saying (to everyone)
"hey yankee how about bombing your house and hiroshima"
>>189
I've ran into people on MAG with VIP and DQN in their clan tags.
Looking for some good RPGs for NDS in which I can enjoy some long range attacks,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJyGwziEF-g
Wow, a new Front Mission game. I've always loved Front Mission (especially 3). This is an action game but I like AC as well so this should be pretty good.
Has anyone tried Minecraft yet?
http://minecraft.net/
>>196-san I've heard a lot of things about Minecraft but I still don't know that I want to try it out. Maybe someone should convince me.
I have tried it. It seems to have great potential for QUALITY. Unfortunately I kept getting indexOutOfBounds exceptions. This points to Java programming that seriously lacks QUALITY.
Yes and I found it to be very VIP.
We should create a VIPPER server and build giant oversized mittens!
>>195
That's a neat toy, but I don't get what will eventually make it worth €20.
>>199, I am >>196 and recently purchased it and must report on the Indev build (you can only access by purchasing) which is very interesting in that it is more of a game than the toy that Creative mode is. Hollowing out glorious floating islands, constructing magnificent fortresses, and battling the horrific monsters that spawn in dark places is actually quite pleasant (except for the monsters who can be a little creepy when they sneak up on you!).
Think of it maybe like a simplistic Dwarf Fortress from the first person? And the creator is constantly adding new things to it - it's all very exciting you see.
I think that I might try my hand at some VIP QUALITY skins soon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uiui2MMgDr4
Anyone hyped for HOKUTO MUSOU?
http://www.lunchtimers.com/game/?game=scratchpad
Is this VIP?
I made a private minecraft server for us to play in.
http://minecraft.net/play.jsp?server=6ccc64b13e9285bc327822f883a20e61
Unfortunately it's running on a server currently located at my mother's house, and her internet randomly dies now and then. It usually comes back after about 5-10 minutes.
If GENETOS has allready been posted here, i am sorry, but it is an excellent shooter.
http://www.tatsuya-koyama.com/software/wg002_genetos_eng.html
>>206
I was so excited when the full version came out, and it's definitely a great idea and very fun, but I unlocked everything and beat all the modes the next day and haven't really played it since - it doesn't seem like playing for score is much fun.
That said it's totally VIP and belongs in this thread.
So how do you VIPPERs feel about FFRollercoaster? I'm sure we're all currently playing it and trying to pretend we're kids again.
It's certainly exceeding the abysmally low expectations I had for it!
"Your search - FFRollercoaster - did not match any documents."
I don't know what you're talking about ):
>>209
FF13
You'd certainly have guessed what I meant if you played it.
20 hours in, and I have yet to choose where I'll go next.
>>195
I know someone who's currently developing a infiniminer/minecraft style game in scheme, it's very VIP so far and will let users make their own stuff(blocks, gametypes, equipment, enemies, maybe vehicles).
Can't wait for it to get to a releasable state so I can show my fellow VIPPERs how cool it is.
I thought I'd share some classic VIPness with everyone. It's a game I played years ago called Super Robot Wars Alpha.(Clip of battle animations here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEWM5jfqkdE) It's all about tactical turn-based robot fighting action. It includes mechs from several popular mech animes. To top it all off, there are some pretty complete translations that can be found with quick Google searches and applied easily if one has the know-how.
Etrian Odyssey III came out in Japan on the 1st of April, I'm really looking forward to a translation.
There are a lot of neat looking new character classes, they can be found here;
http://sq3.atlusnet.jp/character/index.html
>>216
Could a Vipper please translate the Farmers text for me? This class intrigues me.
"They are peasants who look out on the sea of trees, dreaming of great riches. Able to learn various skills for walking through the forest and collecting raw materials, they are experts of forest investigation. In battle, they use auxiliary skills to disturb the enemy.
Example Skill
Nature's Blessing
A skill exclusive to the farmer that increases the acquired experience points of all party members if the farmer is alive when the battle ends.
Two Crops a Year
A skill that restores the execution count of chopping, mining, and taking.
Loitering
A skill where the farmer begins to kill time, causing an hour to pass."
Etrian Odyssey III is a load of fun, I got it the Monday after it was released. I'm actually using a farmer in my party, and while I was a little disappointed with his battle abilities at first, but the option to subclass later in the game allowed me to keep all of the field benefits he gives while gaining offensive skills from another class.
I only want to play EO3 because I can make a party full of pirates.
Any VIPPERs have MH3 yet? Summer just began for me, and I'm looking to put together a group of VIPPERs to hunt all summer with.
>>220
I don't have it, but I may be picking it up if some of my friends agree. I'll be sure to post here if I do.
>>220
I'd like to get it at some point. Monster Hunting VIP team sounds fun!
Hunting with VIPPERs sounds incredibly awesome. I am broke as fuck, still I might be able to scrape enough money together to buy it.
I was going to buy it then I realized I have all these games I don't play already that I just bought because everyone else was so excited about them. All I do is work anymore. I am not very VIP
I picked up SSF4 the day it came out, played for a couple hours. Think the only thing since then has been online poker, damn this gambling habit.
>>228
Same here on the SSF4. For some reason games just aren't able to hold my attention anymore. I love games and get so excited when one that sound good comes out, but then I get it and am bored after dicking around with it for a few hours.
>>227
Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V, FFIII, FFIV, Etrian Odyssey, Etrian Odyssey II, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Front Mission 4, Phantasy Star, Romancing SaGa 3, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Shadow Hearts 3, and FFX International.
Currently finishing Strange Journey. I can't play more than one game at a time.
I just bought the Orange Box for the heck of it, so now I'm playing Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2. I feel so mainstream!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
´∀`
>>235
They are great games, if you ever get a chance I highly recommend them. The most atmospheric FPS' I've ever played.
First night of Monster Hunting was great. Good Great Jaggi kill guys!
