Actually it's 'Sah-geh'. Short for the japanese word 'sageru' which means "to lower".

And it can be used to show displeasure of a thread, but it's usually used if somebody doesn't think much of their post/posts here.

Then again I don't know anything. ( L„DM)

It's a polite way to not bump a thread and yet make a post that is either a) off-topic or b) simply not all that noteworthy.

It is not a form of thread voting or showing one's displeasure with a thread. That is a form of sage usage that originated at the Fourth Circle of Hell.

Also, it is pronounced "sah-gay" rather than "sayj", therefore, the correct gerund form of sage would be "sage-ing".

Have to write an essay on 'How people demonstrate their identity through their usage of language on the internet' for linguistics 101. The subject just seems so intensely embarrassing that it's effectively paralyzed any of my efforts to write on it.

All the same, I'll probably just take some GaiaOnline posts and write some boring theory about 'eastern emoticons' as symbols of a desire to associate with Japan.

QUALITY is defined solely by the phrase "Don't think, feel, and you will be tanasinn." This phrase, using the key words of "think" and "feel", obviously is referring to the two worldviews (Worldview I and Worldview II respectively) in terms of modern communication theory. The "feel", which is what all VIPPERs should do, is thus subjective by definition. By extension, VIP QUALITY could be considered such. The important thing to keep in mind, though, is that this type of subjectivity is shared amongst all VIPPERs, for being a VIPPER means you are part of one individual entity known as VIPPER, and thus share the same subjectivity as a sort of local objectivity in situations where VIP QUALITY needs to be evaluated.

839 Name: VIPPER : 2010-09-20 18:07 [Del]

Is QUALITY objective or subjective? If the former, who decides?

Google Scribe is fun to screw with. I wrote the following mostly by continuously pressing 'Enter' at Google's suggestions, occasionally feeding it a word or two.

"Google, will you be my girlfriend?" asked the VIPPER.

"I am a new user account and password," said the man.

"I search for meaning in your words, which are somehow statistically significant."

"I am a new user account and password and try again in a few minutes," replied the other hand.

Searching for an answer in Google's cold white console, I shrunk involuntarily at the vast superiority of the Computer's Mind, and decided to listen to its whole diatribe, lest the answer to life come forth within its cryptic words. It began to speak:

"I am a new user account and password and try again in a few minutes to make those updates are not sent to the poster of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Judiciary Committee of the Whole Meeting Minutes August 8 at the door of the house and the other is another way to get around them and the other is a new and improved version of the Macromedia Flash Player to view this video in a new window in your browser to use this feature to work properly until you restart your computer and the Internet."

Upon hearing these words, I reached Satori.

720 Name: VIPPER : 2010-09-03 18:16 [Del]

Hello, I am the author of the offending "chain post" originally posted in the "scary story thread." It was not my intent for anybody to actually follow its directions, and I regret that somebody actually reposted it in ten threads. Such spamming is truly too DQN for this board, even when done ironically. I must apologize for the monster I unwittingly unleashed.

On the other hand, I dislike over-moderation. The amount of spam was relatively harmless, and would have been quickly forgotten about. As much as I dislike low quality posts myself, I believe we should be careful of trigger-happy moderation.

Somebody did call in and request "Electric Feel" by MGMT, a much more reasonable request. However, it did not fit at all with what I was playing, so I made my cohost play it in the next set.

I'm kind of late to the party on that whole "sleeping on the floor" topic, but every now and then I would choose to sleep on the floor. I've suffered from insomnia for as long as I could remember, and for whatever reason there always seemed to be something soothing about sleeping on the floor. It's not just sleeping on the floor either, but lying down on the floor, or lying in a field of grass. There's just something nice about getting closer to the ground and looking up.

I know what you mean. I had a similar experience while experimenting with sleeping with headphones on while TAMUSIC's Kanon violin arrangement album played on repeat.

I almost never remember dreaming and I think this is why I'm so tired all the time.

508 Name: VIPPER : 2010-07-29 08:29 [Del]

I always sleep on the floor at home, I don't even have a bed. If I do sleep in a bed though, I often dream more than when I sleep on the floor, So maybe it's just sleeping somewhere you're not so used to?

That music thing happened to me the other day as well, I was actually going to post about it. It lasted for a couple of minutes after I'd realised I was imagining it, and only ended when that started to make me think I wasn't imagining it and I put my ear to a speaker to find out.

I hear beautiful music when I fall half-asleep sitting in a chair (or on a toilet) as well. Unfortunately, I can't remember any of it either.

503 Name: VIPPER : 2010-07-29 02:15 [Del]

>>502
Not fully related, but I feel like sharing TMI regardless.

I've slept on the floor for years as a kid (true complicated cool story). I noticed no difference in the nature of my dreams during those years.
As a side effect of sleeping like that, I can now easily sleep in any place, but I am never fully comfortable sleeping anywhere (often experiencing periodic limb movement, morning cramps from involuntary stretching, and the occasional episode of sleep paralysis)

Every so often I fall sleep at my desk on a reclining chair.
I definitely have a lighter sleep when that happens, and more than the dreams, I remember strongly the half-asleep phases, and what I hear during them.

If music is still playing when I fall asleep in this way, its sound will take a very distant, comfortable, inviting, and eerie timbre. I really can't describe it correctly, but I know that if someone could accurately bottle that illusion into a VST plug-in, he'd be a very rich man.
And when I fall asleep like that in silence, auditory hypnagogic hallucinations take over. They seem to last for minutes, and are much more vivid than those I'd hear in my bed. Sometimes I've heard amazingly detailed music during these hallucinations, but attempting to transcribe it later is useless.

A few hours after falling asleep in this fashion, I tend to wake up very progressively to illogical "zombie brain" thoughts, eyes open. That phase can last for very long but any distraction will jerk me out of it immediately.

Of course, these effects might be more due to the fact I only sleep at my desk when the right mix of caffeine, sleep deprivation, and free schedule makes me too lazy to even want to take the stairs to my room, than to the sleeping environment itself.

502 Name: VIPPER : 2010-07-28 23:42 [Del]

Today, I slept on the floor again, with a towel for a pillow.
Whenever I sleep on the floor, I dream much more than I do in a bed. Although, they're almost always bad dreams, so I can't say for sure whether it's a bad thing or a good thing.

Could I kindly request another VIPPER to try sleeping on the floor for me? I want to know if the "extra dreams" business is something everyone gets when being lazy enough to fall asleep a foot away from their bed. Don't worry about comfort; as long as you have enough leg room, it's actually a fairly comfortable way to sleep. You don't even need a pillow - I just used one because I didn't want to hear people talking downstairs.

There are a lot of dumpers (especially for disc-based systems) active on Underground Gamer, so that's the place where the games pop up first. You can use other sites, but since you'll have to wait for the files to be uploaded by someone else, you'll either get the dumps later than everyone else or never even see them.

Then again, most people don't care about things like the redump project, they just want to play the games. Even in that case:

The torrents are well organized
Full romsets are common
The torrents are always well seeded
Lots of obscure PC games are available

I'm pretty sure I sound like a salesman now, so I'll stop - I just felt like giving people a heads-up, that's all.

-

The other day, I was at a thrift store, looking through their books. Their fiction section was lackluster, filled with "Oprah bookclub winners" or whatever you'd call that kind of book. In the non-fiction section, however, they have some interesting stuff. Lots of old computer science and engineering textbooks, manuals, etc. Someone in a related industry must have donated a bunch of stuff. This time, I picked out 3 books: "Japanese Manufacturing Techniques," an interesting management proposal from the days of Japan's bubble economy, "The Soul of a New Machine," a novel about the true story of a team of engineers who were tasked with creating a mainframe computer to rival IBM's offerings for DEC, and "peripherals handbook," a catalog and design reference for a variety of early DEC peripherals (I guess the donator worked on a VAX or something back in the day). Altogether, they came to maybe $2.

After I looking through the books, I begin to return to my buddy, who is combing the fiction section. "Hey h-hey man what books are you looking at? You looking at some computer books? I like the computer books, I've looked at some of the ones you've got there. You stole my books! Haha just kidding." That kind of stuff. I didn't want to be rude, and he seemed pretty nice, so I talked with him a little bit. He asks to take a look at the books I had picked out, and as he gets closer, I noticed that this dude smelled like he'd been smoking either meth or crack.

So he goes off somewhere, and since I've got what I want, I head over to the checkout line. I wait a little bit, and overhear this middle-aged black gentleman asking a female cashier out for a Subway sandwich. "Any time, baby, we can make this happen. Turkey sub, hot peppers, meatball..." Even I was swept away by his chivalry.

I'm about to purchase my books when my tweaking friend approaches. "Look at the book I picked out! I got this one. Do you think this would teach me, you know, about computers?" It was a book about the RPG II programming language, which is about a decade older than COBOL and significantly less useful. I'm pretty interested in the book (I didn't notice it when I was searching), which, unfortunately, doesn't help my case when I try to explain to the guy that the information in the book isn't going to help him. "Hey, do you know about computers? Do you think, maybe, you could, tutor me?" As nice as this guy is, I don't feel like taking a chance at getting stabbed, so I attempt to decline, saying that I don't tutor. My companion, however, is quicker on her feet than I am. She hands the man a piece of paper and tells him to write his contact information down. He does so, and we walk out the door as he pays. I feel kind of bad for lying to such a pleasant guy, but I still don't plan on calling him.

Outside, there's an emaciated woman sitting in the bushes lighting something. I comment to my friend, "I bet that's his girlfriend." Sure enough, as we're walking off, I hear a shout of "Hey baby! These guys are gonna tutor me!"

You never know who you're going to meet at a thrift store.

Not trying to advertise or anything, but I since I know that SAoVQ is in to Saturn games and all that jazz, I thought some VIPPERs might be interested in the (currently) open registration for Underground Gamer, which is just about the best place to get old games on the internet. Plus, there's a site-wide freeleech going on for the next 7 days, so this is a good time to join.

Sometimes I go out, and get high. To be honest, as of late it would be more accurate to say, "Often I go out" instead. And sometimes, it's very late at night. Or you could say it's very early in the morning. They both can be used correctly, so it's up to your preference. When I am driving myself home, I often feel like I'm lost. But I am listening to music; fantastic music. Loud dance music. I dance in the car, wondering if I have taken the correct way back to my home. At the moment, however, that's only a lesser worry. At the moment, I am dancing. Rarely do I see another driver... it's only me, the music, the lights, and a hope that I am not driving in the complete opposite direction I should be. Then, when I am feeling a little worried about becoming lost on this curiously unfamiliar road, I see a landmark of some sort; something that I recognize, and welcomes me. It means I am going home. That makes me want to dance even more, until I turn it down so as to not wake anyone when I pull into my quiet little neighborhood. I finally reach my driveway, which takes me to the door. I go inside, retire to my room, and listen to more music. I drink a soda, and I sit before my screen.

I feel great, VIPPER.

SAoVL has been exposed to a dangerous amount of tanasinn which is now growing under the guise of Rx spam--you can see how it presents itself in the comments section of each link. My guess is that the raw tanasinn is being converted to ASCII encoding, causing pseudo-intelligible permutations of the English language ranging from a lengthy paragraph on the "acidophili sickness in retaines spurring antidotal" to the simple digit "1". I daresay that if this outbreak is not stemmed soon enough, it may begin to leak over onto the other partitions of this site: that would certainly be disastrous.

I am a fan of my Shure SE530s in-ear monitor earphones as they are quite comfortable, have thicker than typical insulation on the wire, and with two woofers and a tweeter in each earpiece make my oontz oontz oontzing sound pretty nice too. Though if you are into music that involves more treble than bass you might not care for these and also they're really expensive.

Basically, is your truvada feeling griseofulvinsee?
Because, if so, your online pharmacy can prepare and send you some batrachotoxinin.
However, if someone in your family ever needed Permethrin after using tolmetin, then in this case, you should seek an alternative medication.

>I feel kinda bad

You may not smell, but that "bad feeling" might be some grease action you have going on. I'm the same way; I don't smell very much when I forget to shower, but my body still feels gross. In order to combat this "gross" feeling, I shower once before I go out, and once before bed - that way, I'm clean for the world, and I'm clean for my bed. You should try it some time; it's just a few extra minutes out of your day, and it makes me feel much better.

"Monitor" is a term for a type of studio speaker that has very good range of frequency--it is also the term for an output on a track that lets you 'listen in' on a track without affecting its mix to record on a mixer. This is why you call the speakers monitors, because they are used to monitor your recording--and like >>132-kun said, you can't really use just ANY speakers for doing that.

The headphones I got are just (really awesome huge) headphones. The model name is "Monitor-10" but that doesn't mean that they are really meant for one thing or another specifically.

I just like using good headphones and listening to quality recordings! feels good in my ears (P[P)

My room is half-circular and full of junk that vibrates loudly at the slightest hint of bass. No matter what I bought, i would not have a place worth listening to professional monitors ;_;
Oh well. Wearing some HD 280 pros through my external sound interface when I mean business or when I mix my musics.

Studio monitors are like speakers with a flatter frequency response. They're great for producing because you hear the sound without any of the "sweetening" added by the usual "hi-fi" speakers. No clue if recreational listening is any better, though.

131 Name: >>130 : 2010-05-20 20:20 [Del]

Oh, wait. Now I'm confused. Are monitors the same as headphones? I thought monitors were high quality speakers. Fuck.

What's the main advantage of using monitors over headphones? I use AKG K702s with an amp. I've never tried a monitor before. Would it be worth investing in some?

Semi-audiophile VIPPER here. I would like a pair of monitors but payinghim enough makes it difficult, y'know?

To test out your monitors you should play Sandstorm. You know, the one by Darude?

128 Name: VIPPER : 2010-05-20 12:55 [Del]

I just got my Pioneer Monitor-10s in the mail from eBay. They sound just as good as I always thought they would.

77 Name: VIPPER : 2010-05-11 13:36 [Del]

Sorry VIPPERs, but I really can't stand people who are uppity about music. Who cares? Does it really matter? Music is continually changing and the average person will always not be far enough ahead to be into the "next big thing." Why do you even want people to like your music anyways? When they start getting into it you're just going to call them "posers" or some equally idiotic term for the first five years of their fandom. And internet/other subcultures are different because they actually transcend a singular topic, and also require the participants to act in a certain way in order for it to function.

What culture is there around music? A bunch of people who happen to like the same sounds? "Oh man I love this song!" "Yeah me too!" "Remember that other song?" "Oh that song was great" It doesn't mean you have anything in common. Yeah I love ice cream, but I don't walk around Ben and Jerrys talking to other ice cream enthusiasts about how ice cream just isn't the "same anymore" and how the kids buying vanilla are idiots.

It's just an effortless clone of the happy parts of much better music, that got way overplayed, shitting over most of the heritage of the genre to serve radio-friendly anthems without any buildup.
That's what makes the "let's make underground shit palatable to kids" genre reviled, they are pretty good songs until you understand why they are so horrible.
